Landmines in Afghanistan

The photo above was taken along a wall surrounding a
vineyard. Landmines are often placed with cruel accuracy -
near wells, roads, homes, schools, and agricultural fields. This
leads to heavy civilian casualties and severely retards economic
growth by leaving the land unusable due to the dangers
beneath. Unfortunately, all too often the fundamental human
desire for food and shelter drive people into harms way.
