HALO Deminers survey a vineyard that is littered with hundreds of landmines in the Shomali Plains. The gentleman on the left is an eye surgeon who found that he could make a better living removing land mines.
A deminer toils in the heat. Steady nerves and a clear mind are necessary requirements for this job. There are many false alarms, such as metal bullet casings, fragmentation, etc. that must be treated as live munitions until they are visually identified. Centimeter by centimeter they advance. A simple lapse of judgement or lack of concentration can be fatal.
