This photo was taken in the summer of 2003 at Baburs garden in Kabul. This garden was once the most beautiful landmark in Kabul. It housed over 160 trees and served as a premier getaway for Afghans.. Unfortunately, this garden was located at the front lines during the recent factional fighting. Trees were cut down to be used for fuel and the ancient structures are scarred by countless bullet holes. Its origins date back more than 500 years to the reign of Emperor Babur Shah. Babur is still buried here today. The good news is that the US and other countries have pledged to rebuild this garden to its former glory. The flowers above are the first bloom that this garden has seen in over 13 years. To learn more, click here.
